You're Next

2011 Film

  • Description
The film opens with a couple engaging in sex. Afterwards, the man showers while the woman goes to get herself a drink. After his shower, he discovers "You're Next" written in blood on the sliding glass doors; behind them is the woman's dead body. He is then killed by the unknown assailant.
In the next scene, a wealthy family is seen going to their remote vacation house, which just happens to be next door to the house in which the man and woman in the previous scene were brutally murdered. The mother, Aubrey, claims she hears something upstairs and wants to leave. Ignoring her warning, her husband, Paul, goes to investigate, but is startled by one of his sons, Crispian.
The next day, the family's other siblings arrive. Aubrey sends the visiting Erin, Crispian's girlfriend who has a surprising secret she has been hiding from him, to go to a nearby house to ask for some items she needs, but there is obviously no response as the house is the one in the first scene, which featured the two brutal murders. At dinner later the family gathering quickly turns deadly when Tariq is shot with a bolt through a window. In the process of escaping the room, Drake is shot in the back with a bolt and passes out from the pain, but survives. Paul and Aubrey's daughter, Aimee, attempts to escape the house but is killed after running into a trip wire strung outside the front door, cutting her throat.
Aubrey seeks refuge upstairs, but is murdered by an assailant under her bed. Hearing her scream, the surviving family members run upstairs to find her dead body. On the wall, written in blood, are the words "You're Next". Lingering, Kelly[who?] discovers that the killer is still under the bed, escapes and runs to the neighbors' house, where she discovers the dead body of the man from the opening scene. She is then killed with an axe to the head. Crispian flees the house. Erin is attacked but kills her assailant with a meat tenderizer to the head. While upstairs Paul discovers the killers had been in the house before the family arrived, but he is murdered while trying to warn his kids. It is then revealed that Paul and Aubrey's youngest son, Felix and his girlfriend, Zee, are behind the murders, hoping to inherit the family's fortune.
Erin sets up small traps around the house hoping to catch the killers. She confides to Zee that she was raised by survivalists, a secret she kept hidden even from Crispian. Drake awakens and is almost killed, but Erin saves him, and the killer flees. Believing there might be weapons in the basement, Erin goes down with Drake, Zee, and Felix. Erin and Zee leave the basement, leaving Felix and Drake alone. Felix kills Drake by impaling him with screwdrivers. Erin goes upstairs to try and find Paul and she is attacked by one of the killers, but manages to escape. She runs into the woods and is attacked again, but makes it back to the house. Once inside, she overhears a conversation between Felix, Zee, and two others, thus discovering their involvement in the massacre. Her phone goes off, giving away her hiding spot, but also alerting her that her text to the police (at 911) was received.
Erin kills the final two masked attackers,[how?] and sets up another trap with an axe above the front door. Erin is attacked by Felix and Zee, and she kills them after a long fight in the kitchen. Felix's phone rings and Erin answers without revealing her identity. Crispian is on the other line, which reveals his involvement as well in the murderous conspiracy. He returns to the house and tries to explain his actions when confronted by Erin, who kills him by stabbing him in the neck and eye.
A policeman arrives, who, upon seeing Erin stab Crispian, shoots her in the shoulder. He calls for backup and goes into the house. However, he enters through the booby-trapped front door despite Erin's attempts to warn him. As the axe hurtles towards his face, the film smash cuts to the end credits with the words "YOU'RE NEXT" written in blood.
